Thailand All Set To Dominates Athletics

From Asan Ahmad
HANOI, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- Southeast Asian athletics powerhouse Thailand are all set to dominate the 22nd SEA Games athletics events which kick off at the My Dinh National Stadium here on Dec 7.


As usual the Thais are hoping to maintain their dominance in this area and have set a target of 16 gold medals. Anything beyond that would be considered a bonus.


"We've got to be realistic. If we get anything more it will be a bonus. Our target is based on our current form," said Thailand's athletics team manager Supanat Ariyamongkol here Wednesday.


According to Supanat, some of the events they dominated in the past may not be able to deliver, especially the middle distance sprints.


Medal hopeful Winatho Wassana, who competes in the women's 400m, 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay, is not in the contingent due to an injury she suffered after the Asian Tarck and Field Championships in Manila last month.


"Three gold medals are already out," said Supanat.


The absence of Southeast Asia's "sprint king", Reanchai Serharwong, would also affect their gold medal haul.


Reanchai was dropped from the team for disciplinary reasons and the Thais are pinning their hopes on Sittichai Suwonprateep, who is reported to be in tremendous form this year.


Sittichai has a personal best of 10.36s in the 100m and this is good enough for the Thais to reign supreme in the event.


Besides, he is also likely to dominate the 200m for which his personel best is 20.79s.


In addition, the 25-year-old will also spearhead the men's 4x100m relay together with Vissanu Sophanich, Seksan Wongsala and Kongdech Natanee. The quartet won the bronze medal at the Asian Track and Field championships in Manila.


Their women's squad is also in good shape and Supanat expects them to continue their supremacy in both the track and field events.


The women sprinters -- spearheaded by Orranut Klomdee, Jutamass Tawoncharoen, Nongnuch Sanrat and Sangwan Jaksunin -- created an impressive impact at the ATF meet in Manila and the Thais are banking on them again.


In the hurdles event they have Trecia Roberts to bank on, while in the field events their women are strong in shot putt, javelin and the discus throw.


However, Supanat said this time around the going could be tough for his country.


"This time it's going to be tough...Myanmar is picking up well and the same with Vietnam. Of course, our respect is still for Malaysia," he said.


"They are eager to go all out for the golds," he added.


In the last SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Thailand bagged 22 gold medals -- one of their best achievements.

拉瑪詹德蘭以前霸位太久了，導致大馬田總沒有危機意識，如今連拉瑪詹德蘭要復出也不行，昔日雄風難以重現，而大馬路跑印度裔同胞，要好好努力！畢竟大馬沒有印度裔同胞，中長距離項目肯定難摸金。

而且一舉數得，也可讓同事在東運期間參考，但是，相信大馬在本屆東運田徑賽的收穫和破全國紀錄，將是令人不敢寄予厚望。不知你是否有注意到大馬在本屆東運田徑賽，竟沒有印度裔同胞？全都是華裔和巫裔同胞，當然小弟絕沒有眨華、巫同胞的能力，但是畢竟大馬在過去很多都是靠印度裔同胞爭天下，不知大馬田壇何時才可重振雄風？

可能是，個性使然或世俗羈絆，不善旅遊因此很少出遠門，

好說，竟然有緣在跑步網上認識大家，理應互相鼓勵打氣，小弟只是盡小弟份內的責任，別客氣，希望台灣跑友能夠在平地的新加坡馬拉松跑出好成績。

若是熱天，沒下雨，時間介於430至500的跑友就需提防在第35公里後，有一段路程沒有樹遮蔭，若有帶帽就不會被暴晒。

但是不好太大啦，冷過頭，可不是好滋味，細雨霏霏，還不錯。昨早吉隆坡就下起一場大雨，從六時三十分下到十時許才結束。

台灣各位路跑朋友：

即將參加十二月七日新加坡馬拉松的台灣跑友，雖然小弟因工作的關係，無法南下參賽，不過希望台灣跑友若是有時間，可以與大馬各地跑友會面。

以小弟所屬的Pacesetters跑步俱樂部，也將有一輛巴士南下參賽，而且還有不少是自己駕車去新加坡，按照慣例，Pacesetters都會在賽場終點附近設立自己一個攤位或一個地盤，最明顯的標誌是有黃色布條。

此外，小弟在柔佛州（Johor）麻坡(Muar)的一些跑友，在“駱駝”跑步俱樂部的名譽下參賽，相信至少也有十多名。

還有，馬六甲(Melaka)的“天鷹”跑步俱樂部，每年也有跑友南下，所以黃政德大哥，陳英謙大哥，蕭萬呈大哥，施總等，可以與更多大馬跑友交個朋友，擴大各國之間跑友的聯系，如何？
