此書對高銘和所率領的台灣遠征隊多所批評, 稱其經驗不足, 會拖累其它攻頂隊伍, 或有偏見, 但可參考.

從第 97 頁到第 98 頁,

But the least qualified people on Everest were not in fact guided clients at all; rather they were members of traditionally structured, noncommercial expeditions. (意指高銘和所率領的台灣隊伍)

... I noticed a pair of slow climbers outfitted with very strange looking clothes and equipment. It was apparent almost immediately that they weren't very familiar with the standard tools and techniques of glacier travel... An awkward attempt at conversation on the far side of hte crevass revealed that htey were members of a Taiwanese expedition.

.... Earlier, we'd noticed the Taiwanese group because they looked so incompetent. It wasn't any big surprise when they got into trouble....

接著描述同一隊伍前一年 (1995 年) 在攀爬北美第一高峰 Mt. McKinley 後, 回程遭遇暴風許雪迷路, 被營救下來所表現的反應,

"As the Alaskans brought him (指高銘和) down," Anker (阿拉斯加嚮導) reports, "Makalu (世界第三高峰, 也是高銘和的英文名字) was yelling 'Victory! Victory! We made summit!' to everyone they passed, as if the disaster hadn't even happened. Yeah, that Makalu dude struck me as pretty weird."

我在去年就買了這本Into Thin Air 的中文譯本，書名是巔峰，由台灣商務出版，價錢是台幣二百八十元，編號是OPEN 4/13 小說之外的文學。

它的譯者是宋碧雲，原著Jon Krakauer。


對了，那名台灣登頂者是高銘和，它也有一本描述其登頂遇難的書，書名是九死一生，由大地地理出版， 價錢是台幣二百九十元。
