We regret to inform you that you have not been selected to compete in the 2011 Badwater Ultramarathon. This event has been an invitational race since its inception in 1987 and every year the organizers have had to make tough decisions as to who will compete. That was truer than ever this year, as we received a record number of applicants, the overwhelming majority of whom have very extensive credentials and submitted very comprehensive applications.

As you know, this event has experienced massive worldwide growth in athlete popularity and media interest over the past ten years. Thus, like many other premier endurance sports events, we are forced to limit the field through a selection process.

We encourage you to consider volunteering to crew and pace a competitor in the event this summer. Support crews are critical to the success of every entrant in this race. There are those planning to compete who would benefit immensely if you offered to crew for them. And while they would be incredibly grateful, you would learn a lot and would have another valuable credential to include on your application if you choose to apply for a future Badwater Ultramarathon. Hello Athlete-Adventurer!

Thank you for submitting your application to compete in the 2011 Badwater Ultramarathon. This is a bold step you have taken and we salute you for the commitment it implies!

Due to the high volume of applicants, it's unfortunate that it is impossible to invite every qualified athlete who applies, including some race veterans. Thus, we appreciate your understanding if you are not invited this year. If that’s the case, we encourage you to support another runner in the race (thus enhancing any future application) as this race could not go on without dedicated and competent support crews.

According to the timeline outllined on the website, we will notify you via email whether you are, or are not, confirmed to compete in the 2011 Badwater Ultramarathon. If you are accepted to compete, you will be emailed the three-page Entrant Contract, Entry Fee Payment Form, and Charitable Donation Form (optional). You will then have just seven days to submit the paperwork and entry fee to AdventureCORPS in order to secure your spot on the race roster. The entry fee will be $995, payable via check, money order, or Paypal. Sorry, but we can not accept wire transfers.
